Oil Bubble

One of my listeners brought up the idea of an oil price bubble much like the housing bubble. I, being the smart person that I am, pretty much dismissed it. I am a dweeb. Via Environmental Republican.

The flood of speculative investment into oil markets is inflating a price bubble that could pop and send crude prices sharply lower if U.S. petroleum demand continues to slump, analysts warned yesterday.

Look ... It's Man Bear Pig!

Our global warming moment of the morning comes via Hotair. God Bless them. The LA Times ran a story on how the Greenanator in Caleefoneeia preaches global warming awareness ... BUT ... he doesn't practice it.

The governor's Gulfstream jet does nearly as much damage to the environment in one hour as a small car does in a year, according to figures compiled by the Helium Report, an online publication for buyers of luxury items.Administration officials say Schwarzenegger is well aware of this and makes amends by purchasing pollution credits for the carbon dioxide his jet releases. The credits fund efforts worldwide to reduce greenhouse gases, such as projects that harness energy from wind, landfill gas and farm waste, although they don't eliminate the pollution from Schwarzenegger's plane. Flying the Gulfstream and other jets the governor uses costs as much as $10,000 an hour. Some conservationists say Schwarzenegger is essentially attempting to buy a clean conscience with the carbon offsets, which cost about $43 an hour.

The Hotair ... points us to this video by the US Chamber Of Commerce.

Republcians 25 - Dems 3.7

My guess is ... it's only going to get worse as Obama and Clinton slug it out.

The Democratic National Committee ended 2007 nearly flat broke, with cash of $2.9 million and debts of $2.2 million. Since then it has raised some money, paid down debt and managed to put $3.7 million in its piggy bank. This compares, however, with $25 million that the Republican National Committee has in cash on hand, after having raised $97 million since the beginning of 2007.

The War On Recruiters

Michelle Malkin has a great roundup on the war on Armed Forces recruiting stations. My guess is these folks will be protected too ... by the very people they are trying to harm.

Many observers wanted to shut out any possibility that yesterday’s bombing at the Times Square recruitment center was ideologically motivated. With the disclosure last night that House Democrats received a massive, anti-Iraq war screed and photo of the apparent perpetrator gloating about the destructive deed before it took place, only the blind, deaf, and dumb will persist in denying that this was a deliberate act of anti-military domestic terrorism.
Will any on the left and in the Democrat Party raise their voices–loudly and clearly–to condemn the ongoing,
militant anti-recruiter campaign?
Will they urge the Code Pinkos and their ilk to halt their
intimidation and obstruction efforts?

Too Big To Fail

I kinda figured eventually it would lead to this ... Somebody always figures out how to scam the system.

I have been told by brokers and banks that the owners have ceased paying their mortgages in some cases for nearly 2 years and have continued to occupy these homes. Now, these are homes in excess of $2,000,000 in the very best neighborhoods in South Florida. Brokers have added that these buyers further complicated things by putting huge home equity lines on top of their mortgages and now have no possibility of selling their homes for amounts needed to cover their accumulated debt.

Maybe after the government agrees to cover some of the principal they will be willing to leave.

Fair And Balanced

Remember Obama's last victory speech ... 45 minutes of hope! Hey, no one is going to accuse Fox of not being fair and balanced ... especially Hillary! Side splitting fun!

And this coming on the same day Obama told reporters they were being duped by Hillary's "The media is too soft on poor Obama."

I think the guy has a glass jaw ... if he's smart ... he will start ignoring this stuff, answer the tough questions and get back to campaigning.

McCain Stands Up To Democrats

This is from McCain's victory speech last night and will get little coverage. But all three show how he intends to take it to the Democrat party.

The first answers Obama's "I've always been right on the war in Iraq."

The second on free trade and job creation and McCain's vision of America

The last defines the Democrats as opportunists with nary a dime's worth of difference between the two.

Update on Obama NAFTAgate

This from Instapundit ... He has the entire roundup ... asking Obama the tough questions on NAFTAgate? As Glenn says ... yeah but they waited until the night before the primaries ...

SAN ANTONIO It took many months and the mockery of "Saturday Night Live" to make it happen, but the lumbering beast that is the press corps finally roused itself from its slumber Monday and greeted Barack Obama with a menacing growl. Read more here.

As a frame of reference ... once again here's the Obama denial ... not good.

As I mentioned this last week ... cracks in the armor. I think folks are paying attention.

Alan Colmes Smack Down

My favorite clip of the night actually.

Remember when Sean Hannity pressed the Democrats in a Frank Luntz focus group to name a Barack Obama accomplishment. What followed were mostly blank stares. This time Alan Colmes turns the tables and puts the question to an 18 year old McCain supporter ... watch and witness what it means to be Republican, even at 18 ... ISSUES!

Just for some context .... here's that clip from a month ago on Hannity and Colmes when the question was put to Democrats.

Hillary On The Daily Show

These clips were removed by YouTube ... After consulting with an attorney we are convinced that the two less than 30 second clips we used are covered under the "Fair Use" doctrine, especially so since Mrs Clinton is a Presidential candidate. We further hold that my position as a journalist, makes this doctrine further applicable.

Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered “fair,” such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Section 107 also sets out four factors to be considered in determining whether or not a particular use is fair:
the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
the nature of the copyrighted work;
amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

At some point will force us to work through another outlet. Below you may still read the original post. Thanks.

I think this clip pretty much sums up the appearance. For the most part John pandered, Hillary looked charming and was more than pleasant. Not much to speak of except of course the obligatory George Bush bashing and the audience applause. And Obama and Hillary think the press is tough on them. Oh brother.

At some point I know the Democrat Party will realize that George Bush is not running again but until then ... here's the obligatory shot from Hillary. Notice how John kinda cuts her off at the end.

Never mind that Iraq is a sovereign nation which will ultimately decide if we go or stay. What's more the Iraqis know that had we not stayed, and with greater force, it would have gotten a whole lot uglier there. My guess is the Iraqi government and most of its citizens are not anxious for us to leave just yet.

Guns No ... Porn Yes

Jim Geraghty keeps digging up entertaining news on Senator Obama. How do people find this stuff?

Obama was also the sole present vote on a bill that easily passed the Senate that would require teaching respect for others in schools. He also voted present on a measure to prohibit sex-related shops from opening near schools or places of worship, which ultimately did not pass the Senate.

Obama and The Canadians

OK ... it looks like an "informal" conversation did take place between Obama Economic advisor and the Canadian Consul in Chicago in which Austan Goolsbee (who?) allegedly told the Canadians all the anti NAFTA talk was just ... talk.

First denials, then the Obama campaign goes silent ... now Obama comes out today and says, hey, what did I know?
Hillary ain't gunna let go ... she shouldn't.

Now honestly ... from denial, to silent, to "I didn't know about it", to Goolsbee didn't say anything different from our position of wanting to change a few things. Actually he really did say he would scrap NAFTA but nothing is going to be changed anyway. The Senator knows that, he was pandering, he's a politician, nuff said.

Count Every Vote ... Every Vote Counts Redux

Ok ... let me get this straight. The Democrats are the party of tolerance, the people's party, every vote must count. They don't look at a person's race or gender ... no its all about democracy.

Top supporters of Senator Barack Obama, joined by at least one prominent Democrat yet to endorse a candidate, put pressure on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday to bow out of the presidential race unless she scores clear victories in the crucial big-state primary contests on Tuesday.

From the stage, the 73-year-old seemed to denigrate the importance of John McCain’s time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. In an interview with the Observer afterward, she suggested that Barack Obama benefits—and Clinton suffers—because Americans view racism more seriously than sexism.

How The Mighty Have Fallen

Our good friend John Hinderaker at Powerline has done a magnificent job of dissecting last week's 60 Minutes piece in which CBS bought into (willingly?) Jill Simpson's story concerning Karl Rove. She claimed that it was Rove who asked her to dig up compromising photos on former Alabama Governor Siegelman. Rove says (yesterday on Fox News) he has never even met her or talked to her.

But what's key to John's piece is not so much what Simpson claims but the fact that even a cursory check of the story should have sent CBS running in the other direction. It did not because apparently they did not. Sometimes at CBS, stories are just too good to check out.

What Is Wes Clark Thinking?

Surely he can't be serious. But yes he is and don't call him Shirley! This is via Powerline.

Still, I was shocked to learn that in a conference call with reporters earlier today, Clark argued that Hillary Clinton's experience as First Lady has better prepared her to be Commander in Chief than John McCain's "wrong kind" of military service.

First, McCain's edge when it comes to national security has so much more to do with his overall political experience and not just military. But the man was more than "just a fighter pilot." He is from a Navy family, and a graduate of the US Naval academy. He knows not just what it means to be in combat but what it means to lead into combat and to see family members march or sail off to war. Now let's combine that John McCain's experience in the Senate since 1986 and his work on the Armed Services Committee. General, paleaseeeee.

Video On Line

Small problem with the equipment. Switched on Friday to ATT Uverse internet TV and dropped Comcast. Comcast was getting very expensive  and for the price of just TV i am now getting more channels plus high speed internet plus local phone. The service is much cheaper, more selection and because its still new ATT is anxious to please. So far very happy. BUT ...

1. It's all digital, so I need a converter box on every TV including my computer. OK, by the end of the year everyone will be digital so no biggy. I just convert sooner.

2. No automated channel lineup on the internet which I use to control my eyetv recordings on my Mac while away.

So the video is down this weekend folks. I am sorry but I hope with a few modifications we will be up and running by Wednesday at the latest with more selections. I will be investing in new equipment that will allow me to record two channels at the same time which will be great. I think it will all pay off in the end.

The New American Soldier

Why Are U.S. Troops So Hard To Kill? This post comes via Instapundit. I took the time to read the whole thing and its quite good. Two key graphs:

Since late 2001, there have been .12 American combat deaths per division day in Afghanistan. During the Vietnam war, the average division lost 3.2 troops a day, which was similar to the losses suffered in Korea (1950-53). In Iraq, the losses have been .44 deaths per division per day. By comparison, during World War II the daily losses per American averaged (over 400-500 combat days) about twenty soldiers per day.

The numbers are encouraging. The mainstream media, when it has reported this, contends its just great field medicine. But Strategy Page says it so much more:

So by any measure, U.S. troops have learned how to avoid getting hit. The reasons are better equipment, tactics, weapons, leadership and training than in the past. With an all-volunteer force, the troops are smarter and more physically fit than in the past. Many of the life-saving innovations U.S. troops have come up with in the past seven years have not gotten much publicity. Good news doesn't sell, but in this case, it has definitely saved lives.

Read it all.
